Humans are Animals: Seeing Differences Differently
"They're nothing but animals."
The word "animal" has been used as an insult for one simple reason: many people look down on animals. They can even feel insulted by being told humans are animals. But are other animals really nothing more than an insult compared to humans? And does how someone feels about different animals have any connection to how they feel about different people?
"Animal" is from the Latin word animalis, meaning "having breath." In scientific terms, being animals distinguishes us from other living organisms like plants. In biblical terms, it distinguishes those that have the breath of Life in them, which includes all anima
